Metrological Evaluation / Status examination

Status examination is the examination of a measuring instrument and its use by the legal metrology authority. In doing so one assesses, if a measuring instrument approved for verification keeps the maximum permissible errors for use and meets the other requirements of the type approval.

Status examination covers besides verified measuring instruments also measuring instruments which were subject to a conformity assessment procedure.

Status examination can be carried out only by the legal metrology authority, in order to prevent, that verification bodies carry out these examinations and thus control themselves.
