Legal Basis of the Metrology Service
Aim of legal regulations in the field of metrology is
- to specify uniform units of measurement internationally recognized and agreed upon
- to provide for the realization of the measurement units by binding national standards (etalons) and for their international recognition
- to assure the correctness of measuring instruments by mandatory testing and stamping (verification, conformity assessment) in applications in which a special public interest is given
- to establish a system for accreditation of metrological laboratories (for calibration and verification), in order to facilitate traceability of all measurements to the national standards and thus to the SI.
