Legal Basis of the Metrology Service

Aim of legal regulations in the field of metrology is

to specify uniform units of measurement internationally recognized and agreed upon
to provide for the realization of the measurement units by binding national standards (etalons) and for their international recognition
to assure the correctness of measuring instruments by mandatory testing and stamping (verification, conformity assessment) in applications in which a special public interest is given
to establish a system for accreditation of metrological laboratories (for calibration and verification), in order to facilitate traceability of all measurements to the national standards and thus to the SI.
