Length

The technique of length measurement is the field of metrology which was the first to require equal measure and comparable measurements (interchangeable manufacture). Mechanical engineering and especially the automotive industry were and are interested in more and more accurate measurements and new measuring methods. The most important task of the BEV is the realization of the relevant base unit (the meter) and its dissemination by calibrations.
