The control point at the harbor was opened on the 5th of November.

On the 5th of November a GPS control point for smartphones was opened in Bregenz, allowing users to check the accuracy of their location. The point is located at the port of Bregenz on the Platz der Menschenrechte. It was measured with an accuracy of +/- 2 centimeters and is intended not only to encourage technical use, but also to encourage people to think about the precision of GPS data. Above the bolt is a metal plate with a QR code that leads to the control points website of the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying - BEV. The deviation between the real and displayed coordinates of the smartphone is indicated there.

In order to enable comparison with everyday navigation devices such as smartphones, 29 so-called “control points” have been set up throughout Austria in cooperation with cities and municipalities. The control point in Bregenz is the first control point in Vorarlberg and the 30th in Austria.
