Quality Management System of the BEV recognized once again 9.5.2023 - The National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) are responsible for the uniform representation of the SI Units (International System of Units) by means of calibration in Europe. To ensure the mutual international recognition the quality management system in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025 has to be approved every 5 years. In case of the BEV this took place in March.
As the National Metrology Institute it is the task of the BEV to ensure the representation and dissemination of the SI Units by means of calibration in accordance with the Maß- und Eichgesetz. For the international recognition of the calibration certificates there are several prerequisites.
The Mission of EURAMET - THE EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF NATIONAL METROLOGY INSTITUTES
It is the mission of EURAMET to develop and disseminate an integrated, cost effective and internationally competitive measurement infrastructure for Europe.
EURAMET coordinates the cooperation of the European NMIs in the following areas:
- Research in metrology
- Traceability of measurements to the SI Units
- International recognition of national measurement standards and the corresponding calibration and measurement capabilities (CMCs).
With knowledge transfer and cooperation among the members EURAMET facilitates the establishment of a balanced European measurement infrastructure.
18th Meeting of the EURAMET TC-Q
Within the frame of the 18th Meeting of the EURAMET TC-Q (Technical Committee for Quality) the quality management system in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025 of the BEV was again recognized on the 29th of March 2023 by the TC-Q.
Recognition Every 5 Years
This is now the 4th time that the quality system’s recognition was extended another 5 years. The system was recognized for the first time in 2003 in Istanbul.
- 2008 in Sofia
- 2013 in Sarajevo
- 2018 in Paris
- and 2023 in Wabern near Bern
This year the Meeting of the EURAMET TC-Q was hosted by METAS, the NMI of Switzerland.
In 1999 the BEV signed the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA) which is the framework through which NMIs demonstrate the international equivalence of their measurement standards and the calibration and measurement certificates they issue.
With the recognition of the quality management system by the EURAMET TC-Q as well as by proofing its metrological competence by participating in key comparisons of measurement standards, the BEV has once again proofed its competence. Thus the self-declaration concerning the quality management in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025 of the NMI remains in full force and effect. For details please visit our website (PDF, 400 KB)
