Sixth Control Point Opened in Lower Austria 11.10.2024 - The municipality of Heidenreichstein in the Waldviertel region now also has its own control point for smartphones. The control point was opened on the main square on the 5th of October.

A new GPS control point was officially opened in Heidenreichstein last weekend. This precisely measured point allows citizens and visitors to check the accuracy of their navigation devices and cell phones free of charge. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Mayor Alexandra Weber, the initiator Dipl.-Ing. Gerhart Böhm and the Head of the Group Cadastre, Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Feucht from the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying - BEV. He emphasized the importance of the control point for the region: “With the control point, the BEV gives citizens the opportunity to check the accuracy of their smartphones. This should also make people aware that satellite positioning with an accuracy in the centimeter range is only possible with a complex infrastructure such as the BEV's APOS Service.”
.
The control point, the first of its kind in the district of Gmünd, is also currently the most northerly in Austria. The municipality of Heidenreichstein is proud to now also offer an innovative way of checking the accuracy of your position. “The control point is a modern facility that will be of particular interest to young people, athletes and visitors to the town,” explained Gerhart Böhm.
